The Problem No One Talks About
I was at work mid-shift when period cramps hit suddenly and intensely. The kind that takes your breath away and makes you want to stop everything immediately. Only I couldn’t stop.
I was operating machinery in a male-dominated environment where you’re expected to keep going. So like many women, I pushed through — uncomfortable, distracted, and in pain. Sometimes cramps hit fast with no warning and no time to prepare. More than once, I didn’t even have medication with me. And even when I did, pain relief takes time to work — if it works at all.
There was no private space to sit down. No microwave for a heat pack. And stepping away wasn’t simple without drawing attention. I still had responsibilities. I still had to keep going. Most “solutions” assume you can pause your day. But none of that works when you’re on shift, on your feet, or responsible for showing up.
